Taking Sailing to Schools

Yachting Association of India(YAI)  in association with HQ Eastern command conducted  a Five Day program to introduce Sailing to School Children. The program was supported by Sports For Positive Change.

Programme Details

DATES: 29 JULY to 02 AUGUST
VENUE: NALBAN (NEAR NICCO PARK)
TIMINGS: 7AM to 5PM (2HOURS/ BATCH)

Purpose of The Programme

  • Experience sailing in a safe and well managed environment
  • Enable transition to continue sailing
  • Engage interest in our natural environment
  • Provide opportunity for schools to expose students to a popular adventure sport
  • Promote sailing as a sport in West Bengal through formation of Sailing clubs and associations

Resources Provided

  • Qualified instructors and experienced sailors
  • 6 Optimist Boats
  • Inflatable Rescue Boats
  • Safety Equipments

Participants

  • Most of the army schools in and around Kolkata
  •  Loreto House, La Mateniere For Boys, Don Bosco Park Circus
  • Students from various other schools in Kolkata with their parents

Advantages of West Bengal in relation to the promotion of  Sailing

  • Abundance of Water Bodies
  • Water sports like Swimming and Rowing already very popular in the state

After a very successful conclusion of the work shop, Sports For Positive Change has received offers by the Eastern Command and YAI to get involved in promoting this adventure sport in the State of West Bengal.
